Frequently Asked Questions

What is NevenScribe?

NevenScribe is a desktop app that turns audio or video into searchable text, so you can quickly find exact moments and export clean clips—without scrubbing through timelines.

Most tools focus on transcription. NevenScribe focuses on speeding up your workflow—helping you find, select, and export audio and video clips directly from text, with word-level timestamps.

Once installed, no. NevenScribe runs locally on your computer. Your own audio and video files stay private and are processed on your machine.

However, if you choose to utilize the AI features or transcribe a URL link, you will need to have internet access. You also need the internet to download and fully install NevenScribe.

You can use:

  • Audio files (MP3, WAV, etc.) Many other file type inputs are supported as well. Outputs are .mp3, .wav, and .mp4
  • Video files (MP4, etc.)
  • Online video URLs (via built-in download support)

Accuracy depends on audio quality, but NevenScribe uses advanced speech recognition to deliver strong results, including word-level timestamps for precise clip selection.

Several variables can impact transcription accuracy. The user can utilize any of several models within the settings that trade speed and accuracy. For most audio, the Base Whisper model (included with the install) is sufficient for impressive results.

Yes. We recommend you utilize the “Share” link that most video sites provide. You can paste that URL, and NevenScribe will download and process the media for transcription and clipping. While not every video URL is guaranteed to work with NevenScribe, most “Share” links from YouTube, X, Facebook, Rumble, C-Span, Vimeo, TikTok, Instagram, and most major video platforms — and hundred’s more you’ve likely never heard of — are ingested and transcribed just fine.

Please note that many paid video platforms, such as Netflix, do not allow public downloading using NevenScribe.

No. The interface is designed to be simple:

  • record, import a file, or paste a link into the queue
  • Click “Transcribe”
  • Once transcribed, manually input speaker/ID information, along with attribution (if desired).
  • Select any of the desired text to select a clip
  • Load your selection, the choose export
However, some of the additional features (integrating AI API’s and configuring NevenScribe’s email and FTP sharing capabilities may require some modest assistance from your tech-savvy co-workers or friends.)

For those who have a paid tier with either Gemini or OpenAI, a user-supplied API will allow NevenScribe users to utilize its integrated AI features.

Once the transcription text is available the user can:

  • summarize content into a podcast episode

  • summarize the content into a proofread-able news script

Yes, absolutely. Just place the cursor on the word you want to bleep and press F5 (or use the right-click menu). The bleeped word will then be clearly highlighted. You can also bleep an entire selection. Choose either tone, or silence, to cover the censored word. Be sure to check before airing that the word or section is bleeped to your satisfaction. This feature is designed only to help your workflow. ***The user is ultimately responsible for what makes it to air. ***
